
Career and Season Highs Propel Pirates to Success Over Hawks

The Modesto volleyball team delivered a top performance Thursday night, securing a hard-fought victory over the Cosumnes River College Hawks. The Pirates, ranked Norcal #14, took the 5 set win over the #15 Norcal ranked Hawks.
In a night full of season and career highs, the 2024 Pirate crew set a new team block record. The Pirates dominated the net with 16 blocks. Alize Martinez, a key contributor at the net, achieved her season-high with 8 total blocks, while Alicia Souza added a career-best 6 total blocks, and Maya Gonzalez joined the effort with a career-best 5 total blocks.
Leading the offensive charge was Souza, who posted a career-high 17 kills. Martinez contributed 13 kills while hitting a team best .571 hitting percentage. Elise Vaifale joined the double digit kill club with 11.
In addition to the blocking clinic, setter Jenna Dalen showcased her versatility on the court, achieving her eighth double-double of the season with an impressive combination of assists and digs. She also served up a season-high 5 aces, adding an offensive punch that kept the Hawks on their heels.
After a slow start, the Hawks found their pace in sets two and three, holding the Pirates to a zero hitting percentage. Pirates turned the tide in sets 4 and 5, outscoring the Hawks 40-28
The win moves Modesto to 1-1 in Big 8 (9-6 overall).
