Earlier, in the second inning, Allie Vincent (Kimball HS) capitalized on a fielding error by Folsom Lake's shortstop, allowing Brooklyn Heffernan (Ceres HS) to score the first run of the game.
In the third inning, Emily Tyler's (Gregori HS) fielder's choice brought home Kesaia Faasisila (Tracy HS), who had previously reached base with one of her two hits for the day. Faasisila's speed on the bases was a constant threat, although she was caught stealing once.
On the mound, Modesto's Heffernan was exceptional, pitching a complete game shutout. Heffernan allowed only two hits over seven innings and struck out ten Folsom Lake batters, demonstrating remarkable control and efficiency with 63 strikes out of 90 pitches.
Folsom Lake struggled offensively, managing only two hits and failing to capitalize on the few opportunities they had. M. Ritchie and A. Scheafer were the only players to record hits for Folsom Lake, each going 1-for-3.
