Modesto Softball Splits with Sequoias in Home Opener

In Game 1, Modesto eked out a 1-0 victory over the Sequoias thanks to a stellar pitching performance from Brooklyn Heffernan (W, 2-0), who threw a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits. Heffernan's dominance kept Sequoias' hitters off balance throughout the game, while Modesto's offense was limited but made the most of their opportunity in the fifth inning. Ari Mejia came through with an RBI single that scored pinch-runner Cailey Jermain, providing the game's only run. Despite collecting only four hits, Modesto's strong pitching and timely hitting were enough to secure the win.

 

In the second game, Sequoias bounced back with a 7-0 win over Modesto. Sophia Coronado, Katelyn Bridgeman, Emily Tyler, and Ari Mejia all had hits for the Pirates. 

Modesto (3-2-1) travels to San Mateo on Saturday, February 1st, to play Shasta College and College of San Mateo at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
