Pirates Split Double Header with American River

Sacramento, CA: The Pirates took the #18 State Ranking to American River College in Sacramento to begin Big 8 Conference play and split the double header. It was the first time the Pirates won the opening game of the seaon in Donaldson's tenure as head coach. The Pirates improved to 10-5-1 on the season as the bats have stayed on fire and currently hold a .361 team batting average including 5 homeruns on the season. Chloee Hoffman (Gregori HS) secured her 10th win of the seaon a state best.  

Game 1: MJC 6-ARC 2 - The Pirates took the early lead and scored 2 in the top of the first inning. Delaney Davison (Pitman HS) doubled to center field fence, followed by a single by Sophia Coronado (Kimball HS) and then another single to CF by Hoffman scored Davison to make it 1-0 Pirates. A passed ball advanced Coronado and Hoffman and Madysyn Davis (Denair HS) singled past SS to score Coronado. Pirates 2-0.

American River had a good 3rd inning and tied the scored 2-2

MjC was held scoreless until the 6th inning. With one out Jordan Adami (Moreau Catholic HS) bunted for a single followed by a line drive homerun to center field by Davison putting the Pirates up for good. MJC would add another two runs in the 7th when Hoffman doubled down the left field line, and another single by KK Zayehmoureh (Pitman HS) and a few RBI Singles by Shariaya Turner (Liberty Ranch HS) and Davis.

Hoffman threw a complete game and secured her 10th win of the season. She allowed 4 hits, 2 ER, 4BB and 2 Strike outs.

Game 2: MJC 5-ARC 7 The Beavers flipped the script in the second game and scored 3 runs in the first inning and another 2 in the 3rd to take a 5-0 lead before the Pirates struck back the a three run inning in the tope of the 5th.  Davis reached on a fielders choice and then stole second base, Adami singled to left field. Kaydance Norried (Calaveras HS) singled to right field to load the bases. Davison gounded out to 2b and scored Davis. Coronado then singled to score Adami and Norried. MJC 3-ARC 5.

In the 5th inning ARC had a pair of homeruns to regain a comfortable lead 7-3 but the Pirates were not finished. 

In the top of the 7th, Davis lead off with a single, Adami walked, and Norried singled. Coronado again singled to score Norried and Adami. Unfortunatly that is all the Pirates could get and the game ended at MJC 5- ARC 7

Kaydance Norried got her first start of the season: She pitched 4.1 innings and allowed 7 runs and one walk before being lifted by Jazmyn Brown (Beyer HS) who went 1.2 innings and allowed no runs and no hits with 2 strike outs.

Pirates will travel back to Sacramento to face Sacramento City College for a single game at 3pm on Tuesday 2/27

Next home games are scheduled for Saturday vs Folsom Lake College for a 12pm/2pm start
