Pirates Hold Early Lead to Beat #16 Folsom Lake College

Folsom, CA: MODESTO 2-FOLSOM LAKE 1:  The Pirates took an early lead in the first inning scoring McKenna Daley (Ripon HS) and Kalissa Martin (Manteca HS) on a throwing error by the catcher. Daley got to first base by a line drive to right center and Martin followed by hitting a sharp line drive off the pitcher's leg. The ball bounced back to the catcher who then rushed to throw out Martin at first but threw too high and the ball ended up in the right field corner allowing Daley to score from first and Martin to round the bases to start the game 2-0. After the first inning, the Pirates had several opportunities to add to their lead but couldn't manage to get a base hit. The Pirates left eight runners on base. CJ Baxter (Enochs HS) pitched her best game of the season striking out 7 batters and only walking one. The Falcon's managed their only run in the 4th inning and then Baxter struck out the next batter to end the threat of a tie game. Baxter retired 8 of the next 10 batters and ended the game with a strike out. Martin was 2-3 and a run, Janelle Barrera (East Union HS) 1-4, Nicole Chapman (Ripon Chr. HS) 2-3 and Baxter 1-1 rounded out the Pirates seven hit night.  The Pirates earned their 3rd Big 8 win of the season and 2 of their last three vs ranked team. Folsom Lake was recently ranked #16 State and #8 NorCal. The Pirates recently split with Sacramento City College who was #19 State/#11 NorCal.

MJC is now 11-15 overall and 3-9 in Big 8 Conference

Pirates travel to San Mateo on Friday April 1st to take on #3 State/#2 NorCal – Game time 3pm
