Modesto, CA: Game 1 MJC 3 SCC 1-The Pirates found a way to score three runs on a tough Sacramento City pitcher on only 4 hits in the game. Kalissa Martin (Manteca HS) was the only player with multiple hits in the game going 2-3 and an RBI. CJ Baxter (Enochs HS) allowed 8 hits but the defense never crumbled and only allowed a single run in the 3rd inning. The Panthers are ranked #9 in Northern California and it was the first win for the Pirates in a span of six games. Kara Pittel (Enochs HS) and Baxter added the other hits in the game and Nicole Chapman (Ripon Chr. HS) added a sacrifice fly late in the game to add the 3rd run for MJC.

Game 2 MJC 4 SCC 14- In the second game the Pirates started fast scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded double from Debbie Torres (Orestimba HS) scoring three runs. Baxter then added another single to right center scoring Torres to put the Pirates up 4-0. That would be all the scoring for the Pirates as the Panther defense made several plays to stop any other players from crossing the plate. The Panthers steadily scored 2 runs in the second, one in the 4th and then 2 in the fifth to take the lead 5-4. Bethanie Thornberry (Ceres HS) had 2 strikeouts, 2 walks and allowed 8 hits before being replaced in the 6th inning by Baxter.  The Panther bats came alive and MJC made several costly errors that allowed 9 runs to cross the plate in the inning costing the Pirates the second game 14-4.

It is the second time the Pirates split with Sacramento City College. MJC split the contest in 2020 by beating the Panthers 3-2 before COVID ended the season.

The Pirates move to 2-8 in Big 8 play and 10-15 overall. This is the second season the Pirates have had a 10 win season after going 13-9 in last years shortened season.
