Modesto, CA: MJC 3-SJDC 2 – In a game decided by one run, CJ Baxter (Enochs HS) delivered her best performance of the year holding the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs to two runs in the third inning and then held them scoreless the rest of the game.  The Mustangs managed only 5 hits while striking out 6 times and left 9 runners on base. Deborah Torres (Orestima HS) hit her team leading 3rd HR of the season in the bottom of the first to open the scoring. The Pirates didn't score again until the 6th inning when Kalissa Martin (Manteca HS) hit a double to lead off the inning followed by a double by McKenna Daley to score Martin to tie the score at 2. Martin and Daley finished the day going 2-3 each.  Baxter held them again in the top of the 7th setting up a pinch-hit single by Larynne Holland (Hilmar HS) to lead off. Trinity Ortiz (Modesto HS) took Holland's place as a pinch runner and then Jana Fontana (Beyer HS) bunted, beat out the throw, and knocked the ball loose from the Mustangs first basemen. Ortiz never stopped and scored easily securing the Pirates first Big 8 win of the season and first since 2020. MJC moves to 9-8 overall and 1-2 in Big 8 Conference. The Pirates travel to Sacramento Saturday March 5th to take on the Cosumnes River College 9-6 (3-0).
