Pirates Extend Streak to Seven Games

Modesto, CA MJC 5, Lassen 4 – The Pirates took the full 7 innings to pull ahead of the Lassen College Cougars and extended their win streak to 6 games after dropping the first 5 games of the season. CJ Baxter (Enochs HS) completed the game allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and one walk. She set a personal best of 8 strike outs in the game. Four players accounted for 8 of the 12 hits in the game. Janelle Barrera (East Union HS), Kara Pittel (Enochs HS), Kalissa Martin (Manteca HS) and Nicole Chapman (Ripon Chr HS) all went 2-4. Barrera had 3 Stolen bases, Martin had 3 RBI's to lead the offense in the game. Debbie Torres (Orestimba HS), Nayeli Ramos (Pacheco HS), Jana Fontana (Beyer HS) and Baxter each had singles in the game. The Pirates moved to 6-5 on the season.

Game 2: MJC 9, Lassen 4 – The Pirates gave up two runs in the top of the first inning on a few timely hits by the Cougars but bounce back in the bottom of the inning gaining the lead on a four run inning and never looked back. Bethanie Thorrnberry (Ceres HS) recorded her 4th with of the season, striking out 3 and giving up 11 hits and four walks. Torres lead the offense going 2-3, 2b and 3 RBI's, while Barrera had 2 runs scored a 2 hits of her own in three at bats. Pittel left the game with a bruised shin but returned to hit a 2 RBI's triple. Emily Cabral (Millennium HS) added her second home run of the season, a solo shot to left center that cleared the road. Adding hits for the day was Chapman, Martin, and Bianca Albarran (Johansen HS). Pirates move to 7-5 for the season and continue the win streak  of 7 games.

The Pirates travel to Hartnell College to complete the pre-season schedule in Salinas on Saturday Feb. 19th, then return home to face Folsom Lake College in the opening round of the Big 8 Conference Saturday, Feb. 26th at 12pm and 2pm.
