PIRATES LOOK TO EXTEND STREAK AFTER SWEEPING YUBA

Modesto, CA: Game 1 MJC 11 Yuba College 6- After dropping the first 5 games of the season, the Pirates softball team is slowly beginning to find a rhythm after winning their first game at College of Sequoias, the Pirates swept Yuba College in the two game series on February 5th. Starting pitcher CJ Baxter (Enochs HS) earned her first win of the season completing the game with one earned run on 9 hits and 4 strike outs. Leading the offense this season is the big bat of Kara Pittel 2-4; 3RBI's and 2 Doubles. Debbie Torres (Orestimba HS) also contributed with a 3-4 day 2RBI's and 2 Runs. Larynne Holland (Hilmar HS) went 2-3 1R and 1RBI and Nayeli Ramos (Pacheco HS) also had 2 hits in four at bats with a 3 RBI day. MJC is currently leading the state in Stolen bases and added several from Janelle Barrera (East Union HS) (2), Trinity Ortiz (Modesto HS) (2), Kalissa Martin (Manteca HS), Holland, Ramos and Jana Fontana (Beyer HS)

Game 2: MJC 12 Yuba College 4-MJC Softball earned their first sweep and first run rule victory of the season after scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to close out the game with a bases loaded triple by Kara Pittel adding her to a second rank in the state RBI (12) category. Pittel finished 2-2 and two walks in this game and Emily Cabral (Millennium HS) 3-3 2RBI's, 2B also helped lead the Pirates to their 3rd straight win getting them to 3-5 on the season.  The Pirates continue to steal bases this season compiling a state lead (34). Martin (2), Barrera, Pittel and Bianca Albarran (Johansen HS) all had stolen bases in this contest. Bethanie Thornberry (Ceres HS) got the complete game win, her second in a row after allowing 10 hits and only 2 walks
