Pirates break a four game Big 8 Conference losing streak last night by defeating Folsom Lake College 3-1 (27-29, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20). Pirates improve to 4-7 Big 8 (13-9 overall).
Big 8 volleyball has proven to be more formidable than ever this season with eight teams ranked in the top 15 in NorCal. Each of the Pirates' conference losses have come from higher ranked opponents. MJC ranks 14th NorCal for the fourth week in a row.
The win over the Falcons came behind several career performances from the Pirates. Freshman libero Jenna Dalen dominated the defense with a career high 25 digs. Freshman hitters Sierra Barrios and Hannah Groves turns in their best offensive performances of the season. Barrios led the Pirates with a career high 13 kills and career high 6 block assists. Groves added a career high 9 kills on a .318 hitting percentage. Leading the offense was freshman setter Emerson Garcia tying her career high with 37 assists.
