Pirates Sweep Sac City for First Time in Program History

Modesto - For the first time in program history, Modesto JC sweeps Sac City, 3-0. The panthers hold the all time record at 18-3, the other two wins for MJC during the 2013 season which the Pirates won in 5 sets. 

Middle blocker Alexis Rios led the offensive attack for the Pirates, totaling 13 kills with a .393 hitting percentage. Outside Denae Finney turned in the second best performance with 8 kills. 6 of those kills coming in the first set where the freshman OH hit an impressive .429. Finney also lead the team in digs, 19, and libero Angel Nguyen added 17. Finney and Vanessa Benham with 3 aces a piece adding to the Pirate offense. 

The Pirates started strong in the first, winning 25-19, behind Finney's outside attack. They didn't stop in the second set, winning 25-16, and the Pirates hitting .240 as a team. The Panthers picked it up in the third set but were unable to stop the middle attack of the Pirates. Pirates win the third set, 25-22, as Rios hit .500 with 4 kills and zero errors on 8 attempts. 

Up next: Pirates travel to Folsom to take in Folsom Lake College, 9/27/17, then return home to play Sierra College 9/28/17.
