Pirates Prepare for Second Round of Tough Big 8 Conference Play

10/17/17, Modesto - The Big 8 Conference has once again earned the title of the toughest CCCAA North conference, and one of the toughest in the entire state. Four, of the nine Big 8 teams, have been consistently holding spots in the top 20 in the state rankings. Currently Folsom Lake takes the top spot (#8) with San Joaquin Delta right on their tails (#9). Sierra College comes in at #11 and Santa Rosa holds the #18 spot. American River, who started the season ranked #23, rounds out the State rankings holding a spot in the Best of the Rest.

The Pirates have never backed down from the best competition in the state. Currently the Pirates are 6-11 overall. 2-6 Big 8, their best season start since 2013. 

Freshman libero, Angel Nguyen, has been a force to deal with in the back row. She is currently ranked 3rd in the Big 8 and 7th in the State for digs/set (5.46). Middle Blocker Alexis Rios leads the offense for the Pirates hitting 2.35 kills/set, 12th in the Big 8. 

Pirates look to extend their wins this Wednesday, 10/18/17, against Cosumnes River. The Hawkeyes won the first match up 0-3. However each set was decided by just a few points (25-22, 26-24, 25-23) and the Pirates lead in each set. Pirates look the top their last performance as they have been playing their best at home.
