MJC Tennis Teams Shine at West Valley Challenge
Friday, January 27, 2025
The Modesto Junior College (MJC) men's tennis team delivered an impressive performance at the West Valley Challenge, winning three out of their four doubles rounds. The men's squad swept Solano, College of the Sequoias (COS), and Reedley with dominant 3-0 victories. Although they fell 0-3 to ARC, the #3 doubles team nearly forced a win in a hard-fought 7-9 match, showcasing the team's grit and determination.
The MJC women's team also excelled, especially considering their nearly all-freshman lineup. Despite missing their lone sophomore for the trip, the women edged out Chabot, San Francisco, and Sierra, all by narrow 2-1 margins. With Chabot and Sierra playing shorthanded due to roster constraints, defaulted matches played a factor. The only snag in the tounament was a close 2-1 loss to COS. However, head coach Shawn Black noted that once these teams are at full strength, future contests will likely be highly competitive. Both MJC squads displayed teamwork and resilience, setting the tone for a promising season ahead.
