86th Annual Modesto Junior College Basketball Tournament Champions
The Modesto Junior College Men's Basketball team emerged victorious in the 86th Annual Modesto Junior College Basketball Tournament, defeating Merced College 78-69. Modesto was led by strong performances from Kobe Nunes (14 points), Malachi Miller (13 points), Ylan Esso (13 points), and Darius Smith (12 points).
Merced made several strong pushes in the second half, cutting the lead to within six points on a couple of occasions. However, Modesto responded each time, regaining and maintaining a double-digit lead. The team had a solid advantage at halftime, leading 36-26. This victory highlighted Modesto's resilience and depth throughout the game.
In the opening game of the 86th Annual Modesto Junior College Basketball Tournament, Modesto dominated El Camino with a commanding 111-59 victory. The team showcased balanced scoring, with Malachi Miller leading the way with 20 points, followed by Tyler Rattler (19 points), Kobe Nunes (16 points), Darius Smith (13 points), and Ylan Esso (12 points).
This victory marked a historic achievement for Modesto Junior College, as it was their first tournament championship since 1944. The impressive win over El Camino set the tone for their success throughout the tournament, culminating in the title victory over Merced College.
