The Modesto Junior College (MJC) Athletics Program has reached a historic milestone, finishing 8th in the 3C2A NATYCAA Cup Standings - the highest placement in school history. The Pirates also secured the 3rd spot in Northern California for the 2023/24 season, marking a banner year for the program.
The NATYCAA Cup awards points based on teams' final positions in post-conference competitions, with state championships offering the most points (20). Each school's top-five men's and women's team results contribute to the overall score.
The Pirates' excellence extended beyond state lines. MJC ranked 10th in the Daktronics Cup, which evaluates community college athletic programs across California, Washington, and Oregon. Additionally, MJC placed 22nd in the Learfield Cup Championship standings, recognizing the top two-year collegiate athletics programs nationwide.
Accumulating a record-breaking 124.5 points, MJC showcased outstanding performance throughout the season. Eighteen of the college's 21 sports teams advanced to regional or state championship rounds, underscoring the program's grit, determination and competitiveness.
Men's Teams Lead the Charge
On the men's side, track and field led with 15 points, finishing 6th at the state championships. The football team added 14.5 points with a regional semifinal appearance, demonstrating their continued strength in conference as champions three years in a row. Water polo also earned 14.5 points with a state quarterfinal finish. Tennis contributed 8.5 points from their performance at the state championships in Ojai, while wrestling, a consistently strong program at MJC, added 8 points through regional and state-level success. These performances reflect the men's teams' unwavering commitment to excellence and competitive spirit.
Women's Teams Excel
The women's teams were equally impressive. Track and field and women's golf each scored 18 points with third-place finishes at their respective state championships. Tennis, with a stellar showing at the state championships in Ojai, earned 14.5 points. Water polo continued its rise with a quarterfinal appearance, also contributing 14.5 points. These achievements highlight the women's teams' dedication and the strength of the program across various sports.

With 97% of its student-athletes hailing from the valley region, the Pirates have firmly established themselves as a powerhouse in community college athletics.
