Kyle Wesley knew he was on his way to having a big day after his first trip down the Long Jump runway. The freshman sprinter/jumper from Sierra High in Manteca had his best jump of the season on that first jump but knew he had more. Jump 2 was even better, jump 3 another improvement and on jump 4 he soared to a Northern California leading mark of 7.02 meters (23'1/2"). After that jump, he looked at MJC's pole vault coach, Sebastian Gutierrez, and said, now it's time to run 10.8 in the 100. Well he did better. Wesley placed 2nd in the 100 in a Big 8 Conference leading time of 10.78 seconds.

Edith Gonzalez is a relative new comer to track and field. Athough the Livingston High graduate participated in high school, she was rediscovered at MJC in Coach Snaer's Exercise for Fitness class. Edith has seen improvement meet after meet, however, her success at the Sequoia Relays was exactly what MJC distance coach Patty Ortega-Stephens had been expecting. Edith ran 19:34.05 in the 5k which is the 9th best time in Northern California. Edith also saw a 30 second improvement from the prior week in her 1500 time running 5:16.35.
