Modesto, CA:  MJC 6-WVC 3 - West Valley College came to Modesto with a 9-1 record and MJC held a respectable 5-3-1 record starting the season this year with many newcomers.  The Pirates coming off their first sweep of an opponent this season, taking two from Hartnell College on Saturday. MJC seemed to find their bats and currently hold a team batting average of .345.

West Valley struck first in the top of the first, taking advantage of an errant throw and allowed the lead off hitter to score. The Pirates bounced back in the bottom of the inning with lead off hitter Delaney Davison (Pitman HS) singling to right field, followed by a long single by Sophia Coronado (Kimball HS), Davison stole 3b. Madysyn Davis (Denair HS) Singled to center field to score Davison, and Chloee Hoffman (Gregori HS) hit a deep fly ball to left field to sacrifice home Coronado.

West Valley struck again in the second inning and tied the game at 2-2. Not to be outdone the Pirate again doubled their score first with a homerun by Shariya Turner (Liberty Ranch HS) to left center field. Kaydance Norried (Calaveras HS), and Davison both singled and doubled to set up Coronado with runner at 2nd and 3rd. Coronado singled to left center field scoring both runners to make the score Pirates 4-Vikings 2.

West Valley would close that game in the top of the 3rd inning with another sacrifice fly ball but that is all they would get for the game as Hoffman was amazing in the circle allowing only 4 hits and 3 runs, 3 strike outs and 3 walks. 

The Pirates added another run in the 6th inning after a Jordan Adami (Moreau Catholic HS) single to left field, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single by Davison to right field to score Adami. Pirates 6-Viking 3.

Leading the Pirate offense was Davison with a 3-4, 2R, 1 RBI day, followed by Coronado 2-3; 2 RBI, R and KK Zayehmoureh (Pitman HS) 2-3. The other three hits were Davis 1-3 RBI; Turner's HR; and Adami 1-3 and a Run.

Pirates next home games are Friday at 12/2pm vs Redwood College as rescheduled (weather permitting)

Pirates also host Yuba College 12/2pm on Monday 2/19 at 12/2pm (weather permitting)
