It's A Great Day to be a Pirate!

A "Night to Shine" is an amazing event designed to celebrate the amazing special needs individuals in our community.  The Tim Tebow Foundation sponsors these events all over the world!  Three MJC Softball players- Isis Figueroa Perez, Brianna Ayala, and Jenny Anderson, as well as Coach Kelly Nasrawi had the honor of being prom buddies for four honorees that evening.

"A Night to Shine for me was a night that I will always remember.  It makes me super happy to have made someone else's night special.  Any time I get the chance to help others or be part of giving back in any way, I will take it.  It is amazing what can happen and how many lives can be changed when a community comes together.  I love giving back to our community because I know that I have the power to make a change in our world, and that does not happen sitting at home," said the Pirate's pitcher and only sophomore, Isis Figueroa Perez.

This year's event was hosted by Renew Church and held at Shelter Cove Community Church in Modesto.  The prom for people with special needs includes shoe shine, make-up, karaoke, limo rides, dinner, dancing, and even a red carpet entrance.  The night is about honoring the guests and making them feel special, like the kings and queens that they are!

Proud coach Kelly Nasrawi said, "One of the most important life lessons I try to teach my athletes is to be selfless and always make an effort to give back to our community.  The feeling of helping others or brightening their day, even if it is just in that moment, is so gratifying and an indescribable feeling.  I am so proud of the three young ladies who gave of themselves that night in order to bring happiness to someone else.  I know there are a million other things they could have been doing that night, however they chose to join me in a night of giving.  That makes my heart happy and I am very proud of these young ladies.  There is SO much more to being an athlete than what happens on the field.  I hope they cherish these experiences at MJC, both on and off the field."
